Ouch!!! Is it right for these junction boxes to be so easily hit?

It was surrounded by a fence located about 2m off the side of the road. The only problem is that corner is a known danger zone whenever wet. Sadly, it wasn't to me, and even though I was doing only 20mph at the time rounding it, I completely lost traction, and it was all anyone could have done to keep the car out of the oncoming traffic.

I'm looking at charges for reckless driving, reparations for the damage to the junction box, and compensation to any businesses effected by the power outage which may be a couple days worst case scenario excess of $30000 coz I don't have insurance. The car is most likely repairable for less than 1 - 2k as it appears to be mostly cosmetic damage, all on the drivers side. (If I have to crash, I'll always ensure it's out of the line of traffic, and impacts on the drivers side to make sure my passengers are safe.)

Yeah it gets pretty fucked if you crash in the wet here. Regardless of whether you were or not, about 70% of the time they'll charge you with reckless driving.
I should have taken photo's of the place, but truth be told, the narrow dodge of death had me in shock a bit. Also it's my first ever accident.

You can see where I came off the road that I had clearly almost exited the turn, at which point the traction became as difficult to find as those unicorns we all know and love, and the car went off the road onto the grass. Once you're on wet grass, you can kiss goodbye any hopes of stopping the car under it's own power, and from there it's a hopeless slide till you hit something or run out of momentum. It could have been worse, I might have gone down the bank and then off the 1.8m drop, or blown the junction box like it should have. Experts are still mystified as to why it didn't.

Well , spoke to a panel beater. The good news is: no structural damage, and if I supply the new panels it'll cost $240 for everything but paint matching.

The bad news is: I'm still waiting to hear what all the other costs will be from vector energy and etc.

Yeah, I'm hoping I can go to a pick a part within the next few days so I can get the panel I need and get it back on the road ASAP.

So, just a quick update for everyone. She's in at the panel beaters as we speak. Turns out they're not as kind as I the impression they'd given. For my hard earnt $240 all they're doing is straightening the bonnet and apron around the engine bay so it can get a WOF.

To top it all off, I noticed something else as I dropped the car off.... One of my wheels has a bit of a buckle in it. Yay, I was pining for something else that would have to be fixed before I got my WOF! Evil or Very Mad Ah well, the guys that are doing the realignment for me tomorrow wanted $95 for it, so I said they had to check over the suspension and try get that buckle out of the wheel, since they're charging $20 more than a couple other places I know, and they responded with an "Of course, no problem. You only had to ask, mate." so that's good news there.

Also spoke to the guy that owns the car yard by my place, he'll put me in touch with a guy he knows that does an awesome job on panel and paint at a good price when I have the money to get the rest of the body straightened up.

And I've chased down a place that does wheel repairs, so that's on the list to do as well.

You may be wondering, why am I going to bother paying to repair my wheels, instead of buying a nice set of alloys? Well, two reasons.

Firstly, I like them. I think they suit the car and look good on it.

And secondly, I believe them to be extremely collectible. They're the only ones of their kind I've ever seen, and as far as Google can tell me, they don't actually exist. Anywhere.

PostSubject: Re: Jay's 93 FX GT   Tue Jun 18, 2013 3:13 pm

Soooo much stuff has happened this last little while, sadly not much of it to my car.

It's now in a roadworthy condition externally/internally, but I got failed on a leak from the steering rack, so I believe I now need to get new seals for the drivers side of the steering assembly.

Also, it's taken a beating, but I'll be fixing it up as I have time and money with which to do so. My girlfriend of 18 months who I moved to New Zealand for has left me as of last Friday, so more time for the mates and my car, and I can do whatever I want now.

Also, I'm starting to get some work flowing in, so hopefully I'll be able to pay everything off and get this party started.

Oh yeah, the wheels? They're actually a lovely set of alloys that look nice and shiny once you get rid of the shitty paint some gomez went over it with. I got the rims machined on the buckled one to have a look once I saw it peeking through the paint, and it's lovely.

I don't even know where to begin. xD I'm like butter scraped over too much bread.

The List:
Body straightened up and completely re-aligned. If the door won't come out perfect, I'll be replacing it. It's going to look brand new by the time it's finished.
Resprayed in an crystal black silica like you get on Subaru's these days.
The wheels machined back, and if they can only do the lips back to the lovely chrome color then the rest of the wheel will be painted the same black as the body and the lips of the wheels left shiny and silvery.
Replace the headlights with BZ Touring headlights.
Replace the front seats with Levin seats.
Replace the brakes with a complete set from a Levin.
Engine rebuild.
C54 transmission replaced with C56 and LSD.
Bigger sway bar at the back and 3 point brace at the front.
Sports suspension.
Short shifter.
Better exhaust and intake.
Carbon fibre bonnet with a low profile scoop and short ram.
Performance clutch and lightened flywheel.
Nice shift knob.
Better sounds.

If anyone knows either a decent honest work shop that won't want my kidney in exchange for doing the seals in the power steering, or can help me change the seals and get rid of this leak, any help would be awesome.

What kind of levin seats are you after dude? I've got some AE111 coupe seats sitting in my garage from my nana sedan. Also give us a yell when you're doing sounds, they're my specialty silent.

Will do, and I'm after the nice low semi-buckets. I'm just starting to get work flowing in nicely, and can't afford them yet though. I have $4700 worth of wasted attempt to start a life in NZ with a girlfriend that left me to try and pay off first. xD

Yeah, well, aside from the obvious, things are really picking up for me and I have a lot more time on my hands since I seem to need a lot less sleep and am just focusing on keeping myself occupied.

I'm now more or less the only New Zealand contractor under IMI, so I'll be getting a lot more work to pay for all of that, after I get the debts under control. I'm really looking forward to turning it into a thing of beauty.

If the rain clears a bit I'll take a photo of the wheel to show you all how the lip on the rest of them will look. I'm not sure if they can machine the entire wheel back to the same state as the lips, but if they can, that's what they'll look like. If not, everything bar the lip will be black.

It's a really nice clean black that looks amazing. xD

Darker and glossier than the black my car originally was, and I figured since I have to get the fender colourmatched and the dents fixed, I may as well go the whole hog and make it something to be proud of.

Hahaha will do. My first priority is to tidy up the body and rebuild the engine, then brakes, then suspension, then interior and then work my way through everything else on the list. Very Happy

Actually, I'm curious, does anyone know a place that can either repair my sideskirts, warped plastic things they are, or fabricate new ones from carbon fibre or duraflex? Was thinking if I can find somewhere that can do that, I'll get my side-skirts fixed up/new ones fabricated, and probably see if I can get them to do a custom hood and front lip....

I was thinking along the lines of a low profile scoop in the middle of the hood, or kind of a louvre design going up each side, to allow easy air access for when I install a short ram and upgrade the exhaust and intake.

And for the lip I just want something that looks sexy and balances out the airflow nicely. If I had skills with any kind of graphics program I'd have a go at showing you what I mean, but alas, I do not.

I only have one rule with it - it has to balance nicely with the GT FX's original bumpers and skirts, as I like the idea of keeping those at least looking stock, even if they're remade out of a different material. xD Although I'm thinking maybe I'm getting a little bit too much towards the "dreamer" side of things...... I do know someone that can point me towards a panel and painter of repute and most likely someone who can repair the sideskirts, so maybe I shouldn't get too carried away.
